When you’re looking for a wedding venue in Northern Ireland that feels both grand and incredibly private, Drenagh Estate in Limavady usually tops the list. It’s a 19th-century Georgian mansion that has managed to hold onto that rare "home away from home" atmosphere, despite being one of the most prestigious Grade A listed buildings in the country. Designed by Sir Charles Lanyon (the same architect behind Queen’s University), the estate is tucked away within 1,000 acres of ancient parkland. For couples like Candice and Isaac, it offers a seamless flow from the iconic Moon Garden, where you exchange vows through a circular stone archway, to the high-spec marquee tucked within the historic Walled Garden for the evening party. It's so easy to see why couples travel from all over the world to get married here.
Why We Love Shooting Here
From a photographer’s perspective, Drenagh is a bit of a dream because of its versatility. You aren’t stuck with just one "vibe." If the weather is typically Northern Irish, the interior of the house offers that moody, editorial light with its sweeping spiral staircase and blue-paneled rooms that feel like they belong in a gallery. On a clear day, the Italian gardens and the Arboretum provide a scale that makes wedding portraits feel cinematic. We especially love the "one wedding per day" policy here; it means we never have to rush a couple. We can take our time exploring the hidden nooks of the estate, from the rustic textures of the sunken garden to the stunningly grand Georgian Manor House, ensuring every shot feels as authentic as the day itself.
Our Photography Style at Drenagh
Drenagh Estate works so well with our approach because it offers a massive variety of natural backdrops that don't feel forced or overly staged. As We Are Soulful, we focus on capturing the actual atmosphere of the day: the quiet moments, the loud laughs, and the genuine energy between people. The estate provides the perfect environment for that kind of documentary-style photography. Whether it’s the soft, filtered light in the sunken walled garden or the more dramatic, architectural feel of the morning rooms, the setting allows us to lean into a more cinematic and honest aesthetic. For couples who want their wedding gallery to feel like a real reflection of their connection rather than a series of poses, Drenagh is a venue that really lets those authentic moments breathe
